Bike Lamp Take One

Before starting the CriticalLux project, I tested out the Luxeon III high power LEDs on a simpler design based on this article. The driver, taken from here was fixed and linear. Cyan LEDs where chosen as this colour is better perceived at night by the human eye than any other. There wasn't much of an enclosure. The LEDs were glued directly to an old CPU heat sink and the circuit was soldered "dead bug" style. The efficiency of this design was very poor and the cyan LEDs freaked out cars more than anything. And so version 2 was born. You can see a few pictures of this build below.
